Have you ever needed a crown and wished you could get it without sending it off to the laboratory and waiting the customary two weeks? Thanks to Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetics Ceramic, you no longer have to wait two weeks. Pat Crawford DDS has adopted this technology to help the dental office’s patients. The technology saves patients money and time making it easier to get a crown.
What is CEREC?
Ceramic Reconstruction or CEREC is a way for dentists to make ceramic porcelain restorations in a single visit. CEREC was developed 30 years ago and is being used by dentists all around the world, including dentists in Kenosha.
Why Is CEREC Better?
CEREC is more accurate than traditional methods of making a mold of your mouth. It also doesn’t have a horrible taste. The technology can make crowns for dental implants, veneers, onlays, inlays, and onlay. Additionally, the technology can also be used by dentists to design orthodontic appliances without needing traditional models that require being sent to a lab. Patients would endure fewer needles and less drilling when CEREC is used.
With advances in technology, dentists are able to accommodate patients better by removing tooth decay, restoring tooth structure and repairing the remaining tooth.
CEREC is great for those who don’t have the time or desire to visit the dentist often. Because the technology allows crowns and veneers to be done in one visit, patients can have their restoration fitted and be on their merry way. The technology also can benefit those who fear the dentist because they would have to come to the dentist once instead of several times. Therefore, they wouldn’t have to build up anxiety that often.
How Does CEREC Work?
With the help of computer-generated designing and manufacturing, dentists take computer-generated images of the tooth to serve as a model for the process Dr. Crawford will perform. The steps are:
- To take computerized photos of the tooth that is to be repaired. The dentist will also take photos of the surrounding area to make sure the restoration process goes smooth;
- To use the CEREC software and create a computerized model of the tooth;
- To apply the computer-generated tooth model to perform tooth restoration;
- To send the restoration information to the milling machine to make the actual restoration: it takes about 15 minutes;
- To reshape and polish the ceramic restoration to ensure a proper fit; and
- To glue the restoration properly in place.
